The Accidental Boilermaker

Touch-a-truck was today.  I debated going because the forecast called for rain but eventually decided that yes it was worth it to get out of the house even if we got soaked, especially because Nate was gone at a bike race for the day.  Thankfully the rain held off, just a few drizzles, and I think because of the rain, the crowd was smaller than last year. There were all kinds of trucks and for most you can climb into the cab, sit in the seat, and honk the horn.  It's a very loud event.   Riding on the city bus. Checking out a really big tire. Learning how a fire hose works. The last thing we did was ride the tricycles.  Since Evelyn has a balance bike, she's never pedaled before.  She was so excited and kept repeating that she was biking just like her daddy. Speaking of Nathan, he won first place in his category today!

I wanted to get my hair cut and Nate convinced me it was time for Jameson to get his cut too, so today Jameson got his first hair cut. Before:  His hair really was in his eyes, but the curls in back were so cute. During:  Jameson did great.  Nate joked the only tears were mine (I didn't really cry).  He did however keep this quizzical expression on his face for the whole time. After:  I think the haircut makes him look so grown up and look like Nathan.

Jameson had his 15 month check up this afternoon.  He weighed 23 lbs 12 oz (64th percentile) and was 31.5 inches long (61st percentile).  The doctor guessed he was just late for a growth spurt since his percentiles dropped off some.  Jameson again wowed the nurse and doctor by being so relaxed and cooperative.  He only cried after his second shot. After the appointment, we had an early dinner at Panera before Evelyn's swim lessons.  The doctor's office and the YMCA are on the same side of town and it didn't make sense to drive back home in between.

The zoo is open!  The weather was perfect for an afternoon outside too.  It's also fun to watch Jameson get excited about all the animals.  I was looking forward to the trip too.  Over the winter the zoo got a new male lion and two Tasmanian devils. The ostrich was very friendly today and we learned her name is Penny. Chilling in the eggs shells. Playing on the komodo dragon.  Jameson really likes to be out of the stroller.  It was hard to buckle him back in. Evelyn the butterfly. Brushing the goats continues to be a favorite activity.

Jameson is 15 months old.  He continues to be a high energy little boy who doesn't stop moving unless he's asleep.  And thankfully sleeping has been going very well.  He sleeps through the night, sometimes wakes up on his own or I wake him up around 6:30. Jameson likes cars and trucks and in our neighborhood they are making the sidewalks handicap accessible, so after lunch we went to check out any action.  Not much was happening so instead we watched our neighbors have some big trees cut down in their front yard.  It was pretty cool.  Over Easter we discovered that Jameson loves ham.  I made mac and cheese with peas and leftover ham; Jameson ate the peas and ham and left the macaroni.  Not too many new words.  Jameson can say George (as in Curious George), but he will often repeats words after you. Evelyn started soccer today.  She is in the 3-4 year old class so they play for 45 minutes instead of 30 and have a mini scrimm...

Finally pictures from Easter!  On Friday we went to the Botanical Gardens to see the Easter bunny.  I was a little surprised that neither Evelyn nor Jameson were afraid. There were lots of other Easter themed activities, including a petting area with bunnies, chickens, and lambs.  Jameson loved the animals. Friday night we drove to Decatur to spend Easter with my Mimi and Grandpa.  The weather was beautiful on Saturday so Mimi took us to the zoo. Jameson loved the goats or maybe he was just really excited to be out of the stroller. We rode the train. And of course, we rode the carousel. Even Jameson; his first carousel ride.  I think he was a little frightened when it started up but then he settled right in. After naps, we had our Easter egg hunt.  Jameson quickly caught on to how the hunt worked but he was easily distracted once he learned there were jelly beans inside the eggs.  He also seemed to thin...

My parents were here over the weekend to take us to a hockey game. It may have looked like the Chicago Blackhawks were in town, but we saw the Fort Wayne Komets (a minor league team). It was a lot of fun.  Evelyn did great; she paid attention and didn't get bored.  Jameson made it through an entire period and then slept through most of the second and all of the third.  And the Komets won 6-1!
