Snow day

We woke up to a winter wonder land. But Nate had to play guitar at church so everyone helped shovel the driveway right after breakfast. After church, we ate lunch and decided to go sledding. The sledding hill was busier than we’ve ever seen it but everyone was so polite and good about watching out for each other. Evelyn is pretty good at steering and Jameson knows to just bail if it looks like he is going to run into someone. The worst part? Jameson’s sled broke toward the end of our time.  Back at home, our across the street neighbor's driveway was still unshoveled, so Nate and I shoveled while Evelyn and Jameson played in the snow. Once finished, we made hot chocolate, took baths, and ate dinner. While talking to Mimi on the iPad, Jameson crashed and fell asleep on the couch. A good day.

Winterval

It’s Winterval in Fort Wayne. What’s winterval?  I’m not totally sure since this is the first year we decided to check it out but there were lots of winter themed events happening around town. We decided to first explore the botanical gardens. The new showcase garden theme is Tiki Bowl.  Evelyn and Jameson enjoyed “bowling” through the gardens.  There were a few other fun activities; they potted a jade plant and brought home a bird feeder craft.  After the gardens, we walked down to the library plaza to watch some ice carving.  There was another ice carving at the community center that they got to help with it. The sculpture was going to be a birthday cake to celebrate 10 years of winterval. After all the walking (with no complaining!) we popped in a coffee shop to warm up and pick out a treat.

Wienermobile

The Oscar Mayer wienermobile was in town today so of course we had to go see it. Addie, Freddie and Lucas were there too and it’s always nice to see them. The kids all got their own hot dogger names - Extra Toppings Evelyn, Jumbo Frank Jameson, At the Grill Addison, Frank-tastic Freddie, and Lunchmeat Lucas.  The downside to the wienermobile was no wieners! Jameson said it was dumb they didn't have hot dogs and while we try not to use that word, Nate and I agreed it was dumb. We needed to go downtown and pick up our coffee subscription anyway, so we added a stop to Coney Island for some carry-out hot dogs.

Happy Birthday Jameson

Jameson is 5!  We had a nice day.  Nate got to work out of Fort Wayne and Evelyn had a two hour delay which made for a relaxed morning.  Although Jameson came into our bed at some point in the early morning because he had a bad dream. He asked for coffee cake as his birthday breakfast for the third year in a row but that's ok because it tastes so good. Evelyn got him a big megalodon monster truck which he said was his favorite gift. Jameson also got lots of legos, a writing tablet, some really cool books, and a science kit. It snowed overnight.  Just a little but enough for Evelyn and Jameson to get excited about shoveling. Jameson couldn't bring homemade treats to school for his birthday so he picked out mini donuts to share with his class. He also picked pizza from Mama Mia's for his birthday dinner. Lucky Evelyn - her class earned a pizza party at school so she had pizza twice!
