The Accidental Boilermaker

Evelyn got her first haircut 2 weekends ago.  I love Evelyn's hair long, but the ends were getting scraggly.  Nate gave me a hard time because I only let the hairdresser take an inch off.  But if it's too short I can't put it in a pony tail or braid it. Jameson also turned 19 months on August 20th.  We went swimming that day too which was a lot of fun.   Probably the biggest change for Jameson is that he finally started saying Evelyn's name.  And he now has several two word phases and occasionally a three word phrase.  He has been sleeping better.  For a while there he would wake up and either Nate or I would have to sleep on the floor of his room, but thankfully that seems to have stopped.  I think we may be dealing with some terrible twos at times.  He will ask for something, like a glass of milk, and then throw a tantrum because he doesn't really want the milk.  So you put it back in the fridge and then he cries fo...

I haven't updated in a while. Lots of fun things happened but I didn't feel like posting. A couple Nathan and I were friends with when we lived in West Lafayette lost their little boy in a tragic accident. The whole time we were praying for a miracle, it just didn't feel right to be posting happy pictures.  We were able to attend the visitiation Monday night and there was some comfort in being able to give our friends a hug and tell them we continue to keep their family in our prayers. Nathan broke his left leg at a bike race just outside of Indianapolis on the 6th.  He had surgery that afternoon, spent the night in the hospital, and came home Monday.  With a plate and a few screws in the bone and with the help of a walker (and some pain meds), he could walk on his leg right from the start. Nate really has been a very good patient, despite what Penny might think.  Evelyn was a great helper right from the start.  Jameson wasn't nearly as hard to manage either.  I worried he would brother Nate in the first few days and try to jump or run into him or his leg.  The days were long though because there just wasn't much Nate could do even if he wanted to, but that is definitely getting better as Nate heals. What a busy day!  It started with a 12 mile run with my dad followed by donuts for breakfast. During nap time my dad and I made refrigerator pickles. After naps, we went to the splash pad but the weather was a little cool for the water. Evelyn and Jameson preferred to play on the equipment. My parents offered to babysit so Nate and I could go out to dinner which was really nice.  After dinner, we came home for cake and presents.  Here's Jameson sporting my new running shirt from Meredith and Jeremy.

Yesterday was Jameson's 18 month check-up.  Weight was 24 lbs 8 oz (53rd percentile) and height was 33 inches (67th percentile).  The nurse and doctor could not get over how cooperative he was during the exam, no fussing or crying not even for his shot.  In the afternoon we met Nate at the zoo. The lemurs and orangutans were especially active. Today Evelyn had another training session for her kids marathon.  22 laps around the cones equaled 1 mile and she did 11 laps with just a few short walking breaks.
