The Accidental Boilermaker

 We made it to summer! Friday was the last day of school but it wasn’t a real day. It was a last minute tacked on day due to the eclipse.  Our principal said, hey parents if you want/can start your summer early, come to school with your kids, grab a donut, check in with your teachers and then you can just leave. So we were at school for an hour. But there was all day “school” for kids whose parents had to work. 

 Girls on the Run final 5K was last Sunday. Boy was it hot! Overall it felt like the 5K went really well. It was well attended which meant we took over the park. Overwhelmed maybe is a better world.  We could have had more water, but Nate, who was so helpful and worked the water station filling cups, said they never ran out of water.  Due to circumstances outside GOTR’s control, I spent the 5K lugging 5 gallon igloo containers up a hill to a park shelter (not particularly close to the race), filling them with water and then bringing them back down on repeat for the duration of the race. But it’s important to remember the final 5K is scheduled way in advance and it can be cool in May too.  This time it was hot. Anyway, the event is way different when you work for the organization instead of just being a volunteer. I’m learning lots.  Evelyn and her friend Maddy.  Today was field day. The rain stayed away and it turned into a fairly nice day. I was cold in the morning and my shoes were wet but I had fun at the bean bag toss with the kindergartners through 2nd graders. In the afternoon the sun started to peek out and it warmed up. I was stationed at capture the flag for the 3rd through 5th graders.  Evelyn and her friend Hope at the bubble station. 

 It was a weekend full of activities. Friday was the school block party. Nate had to play at church so I took the kids. I talked with a few other parents but mostly enjoyed reading a book while Evelyn and Jameson ran around with their friends.  This year the art teacher organized a Glow Show - glow in the dark art from every student. It was very cool.  Saturday morning was Jameson last spring soccer game. He has been playing with a few of the same kids for a couple seasons now and it’s been nice to watch them all improve.  After soccer it was straight to the library for Evelyn and Jameson’s spring piano recital.  Mother’s Day was another nice day. I went for a run in the morning and then we went fishing. No one caught anything. Everyone had a few nibbles, so there were fish out there.   Later in the afternoon we went for a bike ride and saw this turtle just off the path. 

 We took our first trip of the year to the zoo today. We were supposed to meet a friend from church but her plans changed. The zoo still sounded fun so we went just the four of us.
