The Accidental Boilermaker

 Sunday morning meant more fishing but I don’t think anyone caught anything. Jameson did some more kayaking. The kids got to go tubing and more swimming at the sand bar but it was very busy so we didn’t stay as long.  Sunday was also the day to make ice cream   Grandpa Paul took a nice picture of the girls. Poor Evelyn had a hard time smiling into the sun. Nate took Jameson fishing on the paddle boat.  Both Evelyn and Jameson love to fish but this time, Jameson had all these ideas on how and where he wanted to fish. Nate and Grandpa did a great job making them all happen. They both also got into the frisbee golf game.  Jameson asked Kate to play with him and she deftly got Oliver and Henry to play. But it was super sweet to watch the three of them together. Monday morning we went on our customary walk around the lake. When we got back, we took a nice family kayak ride around the lake.  We went up to the cottage for the holiday weekend. First thing Saturday morning, Evelyn and Jameson wanted to go fishing. Evelyn caught 3 fish.  Soon after fishing they were jumping and playing in the water.  I think after lunch we went out to the sand bar and played. Evelyn and Jameson loved being thrown into the water by Nate and Grandpa Paul. Back home I got a nice picture of the three generations of DeYoung men.  Jameson got to kayak by himself this weekend. He went out first with me and then decided he wanted to try on his own. Evelyn kayaked a little too but she was more content to float in the water.  Kate, Oliver, Joel, Emily, Henry and Asa were also up at the lake on Saturday. And it was really nice to catch up. Evelyn even got to read a book to Asa.  After dinner, it was back out for more fishing. This time Jameson got his fish. 

 Another hot day, but we did get out of the house today. In the morning we went blueberries picking. Evelyn and Jameson did an okay job but it was hot and sunny so we didn’t stay long.  In the afternoon we met Addie, Freddie and Lucas at the zoo. All the birds are still off exhibit due to cases of avian flu still being found in the county so it really does feel like you go to the zoo to take pictures with the statues. 

 Since gas has been more expensive lately, I’ve tried on the days we don’t have any plans and we don’t need to run any errands to simply stay home. Not make any plans or find things to do just because. And since today was one of those days, I asked Sarah if the girls wanted to come over.  We played basketball and roller skated and played in the sprinkler. 

 Jameson and I went bowling yesterday while Evelyn was at farm camp. The place we went to has a great summer deal where for $5 kids get shoe rental and 3 games. Our second game was our best. Plus there are $2 hot dogs. We had lots of fun. 

 Jameson and I went swimming at Metea today. It definitely made the day go by faster. Jameson also got a new float. Today after farm camp, families could stick around and see the animals and also visit the farmer’s market. 

Today started at sunrise. Jameson and I did a summer solstice running challenge where we had to run at both sunrise and sunset. Since it was so hot today, I debated whether it was a good idea for him to participate, but he really wanted to and woke up with no complaining. Evelyn is at farm day camp all week which she is just loving. After dropping her off, Jameson and I watched an aerialist performance at the library. It was super cool and the lady was very funny and interesting.  The rest of the afternoon kinda slogged on. We didn’t have much to do and I didn’t want to do much before our sunset run. The sunrise run caught up with Jameson on our drive to pick up Evelyn.  The “sunset” run was a group fun 5K at Fleet Feet at 6:30 because the true sunset is late and people have to go to work or take kids to farm camp the next morning.
