The drive home

We took two days to get home, staying Friday night in Dayton.  Evelyn's cold and cough started to bother her more on Friday too so she didn't sleep very well that night.

Evelyn did pretty good in the car on day one, but by day two she was very ready to be home and done with the car.  We thought maybe if she had a chance to drive she'd be happier.

We took a big break at the mall in Charleston and let Evelyn crawl around the play area before eating lunch and getting back on the road.

XC and soccer

Last weekend we took a little tour of the state to attend a cross country meet and two soccer games. We woke up early on Saturday to head to Terre Haute for the middle school cross country state meet. Evelyn’s coach could enter up to 10 girls, so he invited the top 10 runners. But the more we thought about it, we realized we could get a hotel, save us a little driving and avoid another super early morning.   Jameson was asked to play goalie for the other under 11 team since their goalie was ...

Camping day four

Tuesday morning it was raining. We made instant oatmeal for breakfast under the screen tent and then left to go hiking because we couldn’t hide in the tent all morning. We decided we wanted to see Gray’s Arch, the arch we missed the day before. The trailhead starts after the climb so we hoped it wouldn’t be the hardest hike in the rain. The rain did lessen up as we walked but it felt like we were the only people on the trail.  Gray’s Arch was very pretty.  Pretty sure people do climb to get on top but we didn’t see a clear path so we admired it from below.  On the walk back to the car the rain had stopped and we saw a few people. Unfortunately as we drove back to the campground, it started raining again. We decided to stop at a few of the gift shops and look for souvenirs. The sky lift gift shop wasn’t open because the lift wasn’t operating, but there was a nice covered pavilion where we were protected from the rain and could eat lunch. Back at camp we hunkered down...
